Former Florence jeweler set to open barbecue restaurant

What started out as a hobby and turned into a passion soon will become a business where customers can get award-winning ribs.

"I've been doing this for three years out of the house," Bill Travis of Florence said.

During that time his ribs won third place in the annual Blackcreek, Bluejeans & BBQ festival as judged by officials from North and South Carolina.

His "out of the house" efforts have included ribs for friends, catered events, fundraisers, service clubs, the RedWolves and a host of others, according to a release issued by Travis.

Wholly Smokin' BBQ and Ribs will open in two locations in six to eight weeks, Travis said.

"To provide great Southern smoked eats cooked 'low and slow' for our wonderful family and friends," is the restaurant's mission, according to Travis' release.
