Clay County Boy Scout Troop 282 BBQ Saturday

As the weather warms up, the Boy Scouts of Troop 282 will be warming up for a busy Saturday this week– because it’s once again barbecue time.

“This is our 32nd barbecue,” said Scoutmaster George Dickinson. “We started out with six hogs and now we’re going about 700 pounds of barbecue.” The Troop switched to having the barbecue prepared for them when they discovered there was little difference in price.

So the amounts have changed, the methods have changed and the Scouts have changed– a lot. There is one thing that remains the same in this early spring tradition though.

“32 years, the same price, $5 for adults and $3 for kids,” said Dickinson. “We learned not to change the price.”

For that $5, customers will get barbecue, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert.
