Severe weather in forecast today, according to National Weather Service

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a warning today for severe weather that could include damaging winds, hail and storms that could produce tornadoes between 4-8 p.m.

The NWS is calling it a "moderate risk" -- a step up from slight risk -- indicating more widespread and/or more dangerous severe weather is possible, with significant severe weather often more likely.

Kurt Weber, a meteorologist with the NWS in Huntsville, said early indications are the worst of the severe weather could be more northern Alabama and eastern Tennessee.

Weber said the storm could arrive before 4 p.m. if the sun burns off the dense cloud cover currently over the Tennessee Valley. The storm is coming from a system that produced a possible string of tornadoes that battered a tourist hub and mobile home park and caused one death and dozens of injuries in Branson, Mo.
