Luxury on display at Big Country Outdoor Show in Abilene

The Big Country Outdoor Show was moved indoors at the Abilene Civic Center this year, which turned out to be a wise decision when light rain fell early Saturday afternoon.

Sandy Creek Marina showed off the latest boats from Skeeter, Triton and Glastron in the lobby. Ski boats stood alongside fishing boats with all the latest electronics. Show attendees could climb aboard a pontoon boat designed for maximum fun in the sun, complete with leather seating and high-back recliners.

Inside the exhibit hall, Hanner RV showcased recreational vehicles of every size and design. Hanner sales representative Glen Rutherford said that today's RV is not just for camping.

"The majority of our customers, 60 to 70 percent, are using RVs for living," Rutherford said. "Retirees are selling their homes and living in them. Some buyers use them for a combination of living and working, like the employees of the wind farms, for example. They're also seeing use as guest quarters. Relatives come to visit, and you've got a nice place for them to stay."
