Library special programs: The Friends of the South Manatee County Library will offer the following programs and events:

n Friends Book Discussion Group, 10 a.m. March 23

n Book sale, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 30 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 31.

Speakers event: The Longboat Key Historical Society will host its Speakers Event at 7 p.m. April 17 at the Center for the Arts, 6860 Longboat Dr., Longboat Key. Gary Mormino, holder of the Frank E. Duckwall professorship in Florida history at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, and author of "Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams," will discuss World War II as the link pin between pre-war Florida and the now Sunbelt Megastate.
