Man Badly Burned Lighting Grill

Because when there's fire, there's the risk of getting burned.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old Mesa man was severely burned while lighting a charcoal grill.

He received second-degree burns to his neck and head and was in a tremendous amount of pain, according to his friends.

The man was rushed to a burn unit near 24th Street and Roosevelt in Phoenix. His condition is not yet known.

Neighbor Marc Finder said he saw the victim pull up to a house with his arms around his head, and help arrived.

Mesa Fire officials warn those using grills to be careful and alert and to doublecheck the safety features on the grill before using it.

If you turn on gas before you throw your match in, make sure the lid is open and the gas has not accumulated, they said.
