Grill leads to fire on 16th Street

PARKERSBURG - No one was hurt in a house fire on 16th Street in Parkersburg Sunday afternoon.

The Parkersburg Fire Department was dispatched at around 4:35 p.m. to 2028 16th St. in response to a structure fire and crews arrived on the scene at 4:38 p.m., said Captain Brian Drake of the Parkersburg Fire Department.

The residents of the home were apparently grilling some food on an outdoor charcoal grill on an outside porch, Drake said. The grill had a hole in it and burning material was falling through onto the wooden porch, unknown to the residents.

The people took their food inside and began to eat. At one point they smelled smoke and when they went to check, a back window exploded in and the fire entered the home, Drake said.

The fire moved quickly into the kitchen and dining room.
