Sizzling in Silom

The menu of Gyu-Kaku focuses on prime-quality meat and seafood, which are grilled over flamed charcoal at the diner's tabletop stove.

Recommended options include the wagyu platter (1,300 baht), which presents three cuts of Japanese-breed beef in one go. After being flash cooked (a good beef will be spoiled by being overcooked), the well-marbled imported beef offered a melt-in-the-mouth juiciness and was flavourful.

Also praiseworthy was the kurobuta collar (250 baht). The pale pink meat of the famous Japanese black pork was cut in decent slices and came unseasoned. When thoroughly cooked, the pork still nicely retained its suppleness and yielded a pleasant pork flavour.

Should you wish to try local beef, it is also available. We tried the karubi, or beef spareribs, (270 baht) and were quite pleased.
