Neighbors reach out to offer comfort, fellowship and food

Residents Rod and Megan Montgomery pulled their gas grill out to the street and fired it up. Neighbors soon came out of their houses with eggs, bacon and even tortillas to make breakfast burritos, said a resident on the street.

"One of the gentlemen said 'I've got some steaks,' someone else said 'I've got chicken,' and somebody else said 'I've got a pork tenderloin,' so I'm sure we'll be using the grill again," the resident said.

At the Russel Erskine Hotel, the resident's association met Thursday morning with the hotel's management about what to do about food for the residents in the senior citizen apartments. A decision was made to gather all the hamburgers, hotdogs and vegetables out of everyone's refrigerators and cook it up.
