Kitchen show: New line of hybrid grills from Kalamazoo

Introduced today at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show , the Kalamazoo line of Hybrid Fire Grills can cook with gas, charcoal, or wood. The grills go on sale starting this summer.

If you haven’t yet, this three-in one option lets you experiment with the dry heat of charcoal heat or smoky wood-fired meats, according to Kalamazoo. You still have the convenience of gas burners, however. Drawers above the burners and below the cooking surface let you use any combination of gas, wood or charcoal. If you just want to stick with gas grilling, then you leave the drawers empty. Or you can load the drawers with wood or charcoal and use the burners to start the fire. Once lit, you then turn off the burners to grill just with charcoal or wood.

Gas cooking temperatures range from 250 to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. When using charcoal or wood fuels, cooking temperatures range from 150 to 1,200. Kalamazoo claims that the burner placement offers bigger, more linear grilling control zones so the heat can vary on different areas of the grill surface. The rotisserie motor and drive system are within the grill cabinet. And the lighted control panel makes night grilling a whole lot easier.
