Siouxland Home Show vendors see growing consumer interest

SIOUX CITY -- Savvy consumers looking for the best deal during this weekend's Siouxland Home Show gave businesses hope that the economy is turning the corner.

Hundreds of visitors toured the booths at Saturday's show in Sioux City to scout out prices, features and construction options in preparation for home renovations. One of the biggest changes from previous years' shows was that this weekend's consumers came prepared with projects and questions, vendors said.

"We are getting specific questions about our building system, price, comfort and safety," said Doug Johnson, a home and commercial contractor. "Last year people were just asking about things for the future."

Naomi Anderson, a showroom manager with Central Kitchen & Bath Supply, said potential customers were also coming in more knowledgeable about specific products and competitors' prices.
