Gary Lewis benefit concert raises $20000 for Mendon Library

At the Feb. 11 "Heart Beats for Mendon" benefit, the Friends of the Mendon Public Library raised nearly $20,000 to support the completion of the new Mendon Public Library building project.

About 500 hundred people attended the event, which featured Gary Lewis & The Playboys, plus silent and live auctions hosted by WBEE radio personality Steve Hausmann. Nearly 80 people also attended a pre-event dinner at the Rabbit Room in Honeoye Falls, giving them an opportunity to meet Mr. Lewis before the show.

Opening the show was local blues group, Steve Grills and the Roadmasters. An artist with eight gold hits and four gold albums, Mr. Lewis is the son of comedian Jerry Lewis and has been a Mendon area resident since 2006. "This was an incredible event," said Deric West, owner of the Honeoye Falls and Mendon Market Place grocery stores and chair of the community phase of the library's "Heart of our Town" capital campaign.
