Gas grill fire put out fast at Hampton Beach home

HAMPTON — Firefighters on Sunday night knocked down a one-alarm fire that erupted from a gas grill on the front porch of a single-family home at North Beach.

Fire Chief Chris Silver said firefighters were called to 18 Kings Highway by the home's owner shortly after 8:30 p.m.

When crews arrived, the homeowner was trying to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. Silver said the fire was knocked down within minutes of arrival.

According to emergency communications, a first alarm was struck to call mutual aid to the scene. By 9:15 p.m., crews were reporting the fire was under control and had not extended into the building.

"The homeowner's efforts helped contain it until we could fully extinguish it," Silver said.
