Home badly damaged in blaze in South Glens Falls
SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- A cooking fire scorched the back of a
second-generation family home Thursday night at 60 Main St.
Eric D'Angelo, whose parents purchased the home in 1962, was in
the residence when a person knocked on his door and told him his
house was on fire.
He escaped without injuries, but had considered filling a bucket
of water in the sink before fleeing, he said.
Firefighters from multiple fire companies responded to the blaze
around 8:10 p.m., including South Glens Falls, Hudson Falls, Fort
Edward and West Glens Falls. Traffic was also diverted around the
scene of the fire, officials said.
D'Angelo said he was cooking fish on a hibachi grill, which is
where South Glens Falls Fire Chief Pete Corlew said the fire
originated.
By the time firefighters got to the blaze, it had already
enveloped much of the rear of the two-story building, Corlew
said.
