3/24: Great American Barbeque & Beer Festival in Chandler
More than 20,000 people are expected to eat and drink at the March 24 event at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park downtown. The food festival, one of Arizona's largest outdoor barbecue events, recently was designated as an official Arizona Centennial event.
Based on last year's attendance of more than 10,000 people, HDE Agency, which founded the event, more than doubled the festival space and the number of food and beer offerings.
More than 50 barbecue restaurants and food purveyors are expected to dish out more than 20,000 pounds of pork ribs, brisket, chicken and side dishes. Locally-brewed beers will come from SanTan Brewery, Sonoran Brewing, Grand Canyon Brewing, Papago Brewing and Thunder Canyon Brewing.
Some of the big-name restaurants include: Bill Johnson's Big Apple, Brown Bear BBQ, Chandler BBQ Company, Dickey's Barbeque Pit, Honey Bear's BBQ, and Tom's BBQ.
