The Greenhouse of Teays Valley

HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Joe Reckard throws something on the grill every day. If he's not doing it himself for the lunch crowd at The Greenhouse of Teays Valley, he's teaching students how to master the backyard behemoth Weber grills sold at the combined gift store, grill showroom and casual lunch restaurant.

The doors of distinctive store owned by his brother Eric Reckard open into an attractive floor space featuring designer beads, specialty and gourmet sauces, jams, jellies, rubs and salsas, decorative items, fanciful flip flops with gleaming Weber grills scattered throughout. The grills might seem incongruous amid the colorful accessories and fripperies, but they're a cornerstone of the Reckards' business, which also includes Joe's catering services.

Joe added a full-service catering business to The Greenhouse in December 2010. He had owned and operated a restaurant in Belmont, near Saint Marys, the Reckards' hometown. He specializes in grilled steaks and seafood, but will prepare anything a client requests.
