Walpole selectman grants Longview propane request as one board member blasts ...

The Home for Little Wanderers ’ Walpole campus got the go ahead to up its propane storage, but not before one selectman called the school selfish for doing so.

Selectmen approved the Home’s request to install six tanks at its campus on Lincoln Road, increasing propane storage from 3,000 to 8,000 gallons to properly heat the expanding facility.

The approval came with several conditions to ensure safety around the tanks and during fillips. But, Selectman Nancy Mackenzie, the only dissenting vote, felt the Home should have taken on installation of a natural gas line that would benefit all residents of Lincoln Road.

Mackenzie said the Home should strive to be better neighbors as an invested partner in Walpole.

“I think the mission the Home has is a wonderful and is needed and appreciated and the Home gets a lot of support in this town and across the state,” she said. “I am extremely disappointed that, given the support the Home has been given through the years and in the future, that to give a little back to the neighborhood isn’t an option.”
