Fracking meeting heats up in Hunt

A hotly-contentious discussion took place at a hydrofracking information meeting sponsored by the Town of Portage last Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Hunt Baptist Church. About 100 people attended.

As the principal speaker, Portage Town Supervisor Ivan Davis had invited Jonathan VanScoy of Cement Service Company, a contractor which specializes in sealing gas wells for the hydrofracking operations in Pennsylvania.

VanScoy spoke for just 30 minutes, after which nearly two hours were consumed with questions and presentations, mostly from anti-fracking speakers.

One of the few others speaking favorably for fracking turned out to be Pastor Jerry Feuler, whose church hosted the meeting.

Pastor Feuler dismissed much of the anti-fracking information as mere “stories” lacking solid documentation.
