R Bar & Grill: New Brookside bar scores with 'serious' food



Granted, it was 9 and the kitchen would close in another hour, but I hope the crowd of what appeared to be mostly young professionals had dinner there earlier. If they didn't, they likely missed out on something special.

When owners Bill Grant, Josh Royal and Pauly Sorrentino contacted chef Trevor Tack about running the kitchen of the recently opened R Bar, they gave him the challenge of building a well-crafted menu of "serious" food to complement what was projected to be a high-end meet-and-greet bar.

"I never have worked at a place where beverage sales were bigger than food sales, so my job is to attract people to the food," Tack said prior to R Bar's opening.

Call me attracted.
