Six area companies taking part in food samples event

SPRINGFIELD — Want to sample a vast array of foods from Illinois?

You'll get a chance this weekend at the Illinois Products Expo, scheduled Saturday and Sunday in the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Fifty-four Illinois food companies — including six from East Central Illinois — will give away samples of their products at the expo, now in its 14th year.

Area companies taking part: Crowridge Farm Ice Cream, Elliott; Sleepy Creek Vineyards, Fairmount; Ludwig Farmstead Creamery, Fithian; Oakland Noodle Co., Oakland; ReMARKable Caramels, Danville; and The Homestead Bakery, Arthur.

The expo, which uses the theme "Food and Cooking Extravaganza," also features Illinois-made wines and agriculture-based products such as soy candles.

Many of the food offerings can be purchased to take home and will include fresh meat products, gourmet seasonings and sauces, homemade jams and jellies and specialty dressings, according to a release from the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
