West City board approves street repaving, readies for BBQ Cookoff sponsor dinner

West City streets Mason, Fairbanks, Hartman and Moore will be resurfaced at a cost of $43,574 with approval from village board members during Monday’s meeting. The Motor Fuel Tax program funding amounting to $60,000 to improve roads and sidewalks was also adopted.

Mayor Charles Cockrum said members also approved the hiring of a part-time employee in the Street Department, and entered into a contract with J.M. Walters & Sons, Inc., to upgrade electrical wiring in the park pavilion and add electrical outlets. He said electrical upgrades would also be performed in the village hall, the community center and the fire station.

Cockrum said the village purchased chemicals for the mosquito abatement program that begins soon and approved the 2011 audit presented by Kim Meyers of Hudgens and Meyer LLC certified public accounting firm.
